Enraged soldier stabs cop wife in divorce row

A HARARE cop is battling for her life in hospital after she was stabbed all over her body by her husband who is a solider for asking for a divorce.

Muyengwa Maponga’s wife is also unable to see well and hear after the husband also stabbed her with a knife in the ear damaging her eardrum and nerves which affected her eyes.

Maponga also broke both arms of his wife during the attack on August 27 this year.

The soldier, who is based at Inkomo Barracks Parachute Regiment, appeared before magistrate Josephine Sande after being fugitive for a month.

He was charged with attempted murder before he was ordered to apply for bail at the High Court.

Maponga was nabbed in the capital’s CBD after he was promised a date with the victim’s sister whom he was allegedly dating.

According to the state, the couple was having marital problems and on the day in question the wife left home going to the shops.

Court heard Maponga called them back saying he had issues to discuss.

Knowing her husband’s violence, court heard, the wife told him that she would only discuss in the presence of police officers.

It is alleged that she picked two cops from a nearby police station before she proceeded to their house where she told her husband she wanted a divorce.

After the meeting, his wife decided to sleep at her sister’s place but Maponga followed her, broke into the house before she ordered his wife to follow him home.

When they got home the couple went to their bedroom where Maponga became violent and strangled his wife with his bare hands.

Court heard Maponga told his wife that he wanted to kill her adding he will commit suicide after.

The wife screamed for help while crawling to the door after Maponga released her but he reached for a knife and stabbed her all over her body.

The sister of his wife followed the couple home and when she arrived she heard screams from the bedroom and tried restrain Maponga to no avail.

Maponga stopped stabbing his wife after she fell unconscious thinking she was dead.

After the attack he vanished from his home only to be arrested over the weekend.
