TWO Zimbabweans working for a mine-clearing company were killed in Afghanistan at the weekend when a device they had dug up exploded, company officials confirmed here Monday.

Mine-Tech managing director, Max Dyke said another Zimbabwean was injured in the blast that occurred in a locality some 70 km northeast of the Afghan capital, Kabul.

The company had won a contract to clear mines in Afghanistan, and has several Zimbabwean workers in the war-torn country.

"They successfully exhumed the landmine and when they were moving it for detonation, it blew up, killing (Fidelis) Makwena on the spot and injuring the other two, with Moses (the other victim) dying at the hospital," Dyke said.
