CAPS United swooped on Motor Action and whisked away coach Joisten Mathuthu on Wednesday, wrong-footing the Mighty Bulls who play CAPS FC in a Premier League match on Saturday.

Motor Action never saw it coming as Mathuthu, who led Lengthens into the Premiership in 2007 was enjoying early season success, leading Eric Rosen’s side into third place after nine matches.

But CAPS United, needing an immediate replacement for Luke Masomere who quit last Saturday, dangled an offer that Mathuthu found simply irresistible.

And the Mighty Bulls are charging furiously.

“We don’t know what is happening, we thought the coach was happy, the directors were happy and the results were coming,” the club’s vice chairman and chief of protocol Simeon Jamanda said.

“We just have to make piecemeal arrangements for the Saturday match and leave Prince Matore in temporary charge until our weekly review meeting on Monday.”

On an eventful day in the Premiership, it was also reported that veteran coach Joey Antipas ditched CAPS FC to become head coach of another struggling side, Shooting Stars.

Stars parted ways with Patson Ndabambi two weeks ago and replaced him with Mike Madzivanyika, who has gone the same way.

With Dynamos away to TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo in two international friendly matches in preparation for the Champions League brokered by mogul Phillip Chiyangwa, the CBZ Premiership continues.

Mathuthu’s first task to win the hearts of United’s hard-to-please fans is to register a win over early-season pace setters, Kiglon, on Sunday.

The former leaders have not won in the last three games, but that should not be comfort for CAPS United who have lost FIVE times this season.

Highlanders, after the hullabaloo surrounding their abandoned game against Gunners last Saturday, return home to face Norman Mapeza’s ever improving Monomotapa, with Gift Lunga, suspended. Goalkeeper Washington Arubi is also missing, having travelled with the national team to Guinea.

After suffering their first defeat, the former champions will be eager to get their title campaign back on track with leading scorer Cuthbert Malajila in top form after striking a hat trick against Masvingo at the same venue a fortnight ago.

In other matches, Masvingo face Gunners at Mucheke, leaders Chapungu take on Lengthens at Ascot on Sunday, hoping to recover from last week’s 1-0 loss to Motor Action in Harare while Lancashire Steel are at home to Njube Sundowns.
On Wednesday, Shooting Stars take on Eastern Lions while defending champions Dynamos return to local action 24 hours later against Monomotapa at Gwanzura.
