| Dynamos, Highlanders restore normal order in title race By
Nkanyiso Moyo Highlanders hitman Cuthbert Malajila grabbed the all-important goal — his 12th in the campaign — in the 78th minute to hand Highlanders their third successive victory without conceding a goal after wins over Motor Action (3-0) and Underhill (4-0). Malajila, won a loose ball outside the Kiglon penalty box and his shot careered off the inside of the upright before sailing into the nets past goalkeeper Itai Chiwara. Assistant coach, Reuben Tsengwa, standing in for Methembe Ndlovu who was with the national Under 20 team in Egypt, hailed his team’s hard grafting. “We have won in Harare twice in a row. Today we were rewarded for hard work. We had to be patient, and it finally paid off,” he said after the game. Highlanders moved to second with the win -- now within sight of leaders, Monomotapa. The Bulawayo club are on 22 points -- the same as Dynamos, Motor Action, Njube Sundowns and Chapungu. At Ascot Stadium, Desmond Maringwa lifted the gloom over Dynamos who were still smarting from Thursday’s humiliation by Lengthens. Maringwa’s 13th minute goal would have dented Chapungu’s premiership title dreams, having already seen Monomotapa climb over them to claim leadership of the league. It was Chapungu’s first home defeat of the season. Coach, David Mandigora, said on Monday: “It's crucial to win away from home if you are to do well in the league. I believe we can maintain that form.” CAPS United’s mini-revival under Josten Mathuthu was rudely halted by Shooting Stars who ran away with a 3-1 victory on Sunday. William Kupera gave Stars the lead in the 10th minute, bundling the ball into the nets from a goalmouth melee. Warriors defender David Kutyauripo drew United level with a headed goal on 20 minutes, but Esau Amisi made it 2-1 shortly after with his first of two goals. He completed his brace three minutes from the break. On Saturday, Motor Action condemned Lancashire Steel to bottom place with a 2-1 win while Njube Sundowns maintained their 100 percent home record with a 2-0 win over Gunners at Pelandaba. CBZ
