Police made to wait on naked knifeman By
Staff Reporter The woman, not yet named, died after suffering stab wounds at a flat on Glencoe Road, Norfolk Park on Sunday. A police spokesman said: “He is being detained securely for medical reasons and is not available for interview.”
The man is believed to be the dead woman’s stepson, also Zimbabwean. The woman died from stab wounds at a flat in Glencoe Road, Norfolk Park, following the attack on Sunday last week. Police were called
to the quiet neighbourhood after neighbours saw a man armed with a carving
knife sitting at the side of the road. One man, who did not want to be named, told a local newspaper: “I called the police after I saw a guy on the pavement ranting and raving and wielding a carving knife. “I was on
the phone to police giving them a running commentary. He started to
undress and put his knife and his clothes in the wheelie bin outside. Gwen Hardy, another neighbour said: “My husband came down and said there is a chap on the street and he is fighting with the police, he is stark naked, no clothes on. “I just came
out and the police managed to control him and he was laid out on the
pavement, and the next minute they fetched the lady out of the flat. Other witnesses said when police arrived and tried to restrain the man, he tried to attack the officers. One man said: "He still had a brick in his hand. He was wielding the brick at the police officers but they managed to subdue him. "There were about 10 police cars and two ambulances. It was mayhem. They sealed off Glencoe Road and later put up a white tent. This is a really quiet area, there's never any trouble. It's quite shocking to have something like this happen on your doorstep." Although the woman has yet to be named, family friends told The New Zimbabwe that she was the murder suspect’s step-mum. She is thought to have children in Watford. A friend said: “The murder suspect’s own mother died recently in Zimbabwe. It would appear he was not in favour of his father remarrying, certainly not this woman who is now dead. He had accused his father of neglecting his mother in favour of the step-mom.” The suspect is
not known to have mental instabilities. |
