Man held over Zimbabwe nurse's murder By
Staff Reporter Police launched a manhunt for Daniel Tambengwa, 29, following the discovery of Ella Chimweta’s body in Colchester.
The body was discovered under a bed by a 12-year-old girl who lived at the property on Weetman’s Drive in the Highwoods area of Colchester on July 16. Police said Tambengwa was arrested over the weekend, but would not say where. He appeared in court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody. Chimweta, who worked at Colchester General Hospital from May 2006, was last seen alive at the end of her shift on July 9. Police launched a murder inquiry after a post-mortem revealed the 32-year-old had died from asphyxiation. Reacting to Chimweta’s death in July, Barbara Woodrow, director of nursing at Essex Rivers Healthcare Trust, which runs Colchester General Hospital, paid tribute to Chimweta who previously worked at a London hospital. “Throughout her time with us she worked on the same ward at Colchester General Hospital,” she said. “She was a good nurse and a very private person. Her colleagues were shocked and saddened to learn of her death and the trust extends its condolences to her family and friends at this very difficult time.” Anyone with
information relating to Chimweta's death is asked to contact Essex Police's
major investigation team on 01277 262220 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 |
