Platinum test for new Chicken In coach

CHICKEN Inn midfielder Kuda Mahachi returned on the XI Soccer Stars calendar for the second season running following a selection process held in Harare on Saturday.

Football writers, coaches and Footballers Union of Zimbabwe met and voted for the XI season’s best.

Mahachi was voted last season’s Rookie of the Year.

The 21-year-old’s club teammate Tendai Ndoro also found his way on the list courtesy of being the league’s top-goal scorer.

But strongly contending to land the top prize of being crowned Soccer Star of the Year are Dynamos vice-captain Tawanda Muparati, Harare City winger Silas Songani and Caps United utility Hardlife Zvirekwi.

The best player selected from the XI would be announced at a banquet on 13 December.

Apart from Muparati, Dynamos provided goalkeeper George Chigova and defender Gift Bello.

Only goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya came from Highlanders.

2010 Soccer Star of the Year Charles Sibanda was also selected in the best XI together with veteran How Mine hard-tackling midfielder Menard Mupera.

Hwange and Warriors defender Erick Chipeta completes the list.

Surprise omission was Highlanders midfielder Peter Moyo and his Harare City counterpart Nathan Ziwini.

The banquet night will also witness the crowning of Coach of the Year as well as Rookie of the Year.

Harare City coach Bigboy Mawiwi is widely tipped to be named the best coach while Caps’ Ronald Pfumbidzai is in line for Rookie award.

The season’s outstanding players who were not eligible in Saturday’s selection process include the Dynamos left-back Ocean Mushure who accumulated six yellow cards.

His teammate Devon Chafa was barred by a Fifa doping ban while Partson Jaure was convicted by the PSl Disciplinary Committee.

THE FINALISTS: George Chigova, Tawanda Muparati, Gift Bello (all Dynamos), Silas Songani (Harare City), Charles Sibanda (FC Platinum), Erick Chipeta (Hwange), Kuda Mahachi, Tendai Ndoro (both Chicken Inn), Menard Mupera (How Mine), Hardlife Zvirekwi (Caps United), Munyaradzi Diya (Highlanders).
