THE country’s top tennis star, Cara Black reached the quarter finals of the ongoing Austrian Open on Monday.

Seeded sixth, Cara and Indian playing partner Sania Mirza beat the Canada-Russian pair of Eugenie Bouchard and Vera Dushevina 6-4, 6-3 in a third round match to make it to the Quarters.

The Zimbabwean has yet to progress beyond the quarter final stage at the season-opener since she turned pro in in 1998.

And Tuesday’s showdown for a semi-final berth does not look any easier this time round considering her opponents.

Cara and Sania will take on top seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci of Italy.

The Italian breezed past the Australian pair of Monique Adamczak and Olivia Rogowska 6-2, 6-2 in their own third round match.
