Promoted ZPC Kariba's future in limbo

ZPC Kariba were, on Monday, finally confirmed as the 16th team in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League for the 2014 season which starts next weekend.

The electricity men had failed to register for the last two weeks after Energy and Power Development Minister Dzikamai Mavhaire refused to sign the papers allowing them to participate in the league.

Their place had been placed in danger, with last season's runners up in the Northern Region Division One league, Flame Lily said to be ready to step up and take their place.

But on Monday, PSL chief executive Kennedy Ndebele confirmed the club had paid its affiliation and registration fees and were expected to send a complete list of their 30 players by Wednesday.

The latest news is a huge relief for coach Saul Chaminuka, who has been preparing the team since its promotion last December after taking over from the under-qualified Joisten Mathuthu.

The new season is set to start on Sunday with four teams taking part in the Independence Trophy semi-finals.

Teams taking part in the Semis include defending champions Dynamos, Highlanders, Harare City and FC Platinum who finished in that order in the league last season.

The draw is expected to be conducted on Wednesday when Delta Beverages launch its new three-year package for the PSL.
