DEFENDING champions, Cara Black and Sania Mirza have knocked out Martina Hingis and Belinda Bencic in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the WTA Toray Pan Pacific Open.

Cara and Sania needed 62 minutes to dispatch the Swiss pair 6-4 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the US$1m hard court event.

"It was a lot of fun to bring one of the best teams to have to play their best tennis," said Hingis, who made her second comeback from retirement in July last year but only as a doubles player.

The top seeded Indo-Zimbabwean pair broke the rivals seven times but also lost its serve four times in the contest.

Cara and Sania next face Serbian-Spanish combine of Jelena Jankovic and Arantxa Parra Santonja.

From Tokyo, they will fly straight to Incheon in Korea to compete in the Asian Games.
