Cara, Sania lose China final, part ways

ZIMBABWE’S Cara Black and Indian partner Sania Mirza continued their recent winning streak as they reached the final of the WTA China Open in Beijing on Friday.

The duo defeated Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic and Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 5-7, 6-1, 10-6.

Black and Mirza, already qualified for the WTA Tour Finals, have never lost a match in tournaments held in the Asia-Pacific region and are now 15-0 as a team in the region.

In Saturday's final, they will meet fifth seeds Andrea Hlavackova and Peng Shuai who scored a 6-1, 6-4 win over Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova.

Hlavackova and Peng had to play two matches on Friday, having upset top seeds Sara Errani/ Roberta Vinci earlier in the day.

The tournament win is worth a 1,000 ranking points for the winners.

Cara and Sania won the WTA Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo but Mirza skipped the Wuhan Open in order to represent India at the Asian Games in South Korea.

In spite of their success this year, Mirza and Black will go their separate ways next year.
