Dynamos consolidate lead with Buffaloes win

HOW Mine coach Luke Masomere believes at this stage of the league campaign, it will be difficult to dislodge defending champions Dynamos from the summit of the league table.

The veteran coach, a past winner of the championship with AmaZulu, believes once Dynamos take control with a few games left before the end of the campaign, chances are high that they will go on to win the championship.

Dynamos lead the standings with 49 points with just five matches left before the season comes to an end.

They defeated army side Buffaloes 1-0 on Sunday to consolidate their place at the summit of the league table with closest title challengers ZPC Kariba two points off the pace after also collecting maximum points when they overcame a battling Triangle on Saturday.

Caps United recorded their biggest victory of the season with a 4-0 mauling of Bulawayo giants Highlanders a result which left them in third place and also helped them shore up their championship campaign as they took their points tally to 45 from 25 matches.

Highlanders in fourth place with 39 points also remain with a mathematical chance of landing the ultimate prize of domestic football.

But Masomere believes its Dynamos to lose.

"I think at this stage of the championship, it becomes difficult for any team to dislodge Dynamos from the top,” he said.

“They are firmly in control and history has shown that they have got the character to hang on there until the last day.

“I think because of that character of refusing to surrender easily, they will successfully defend their league title.”

He added: “But anything can happen because ZPC Kariba and Caps United have played very well this season so far.

"That shows you there is stiff competition in the league because only a few points separate the teams at the top.

“Even if you look at the other end of the table, it’s the same. No team is guaranteed safety."
