Gareth Bale seeks new role under Rafael Benitez

GARETH Bale is hopeful of a new role under recently appointed Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez but the position of Cristiano Ronaldo could get in the way.

Marca reports that Bale isn’t happy with his right wing station and feels his game suffers accordingly, having been criticised for his performances last season.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has met with Madrid President Florentino Perez and chief executive Jose Angel Sanchez and communicated the player’s feelings.

Perez is said to want to see Bale made a more important figure in the team and has twice turned down approaches worth €100m from Manchester United.

One solution would be for Benitez to move Ronaldo to more of a centre-forward’s role but the Portuguese has always refused to accept the positional change.

Ronaldo is understood to want the space afforded to him on the left of the attack, from where he can cut inside. Marca add that Ronaldo has just scored 61 goals in 54 games, mostly from the left side.

Bale has overcome the language barrier and what’s described as an introverted personality but now he and Benitez have to settle on how he will be used in the coming season.
