MARK Mathe’s reign as Caps United coach got off to a positive start as the Harare giants came from behind to overpower Mozambican side Chingale de Tete 2-1 in an international friendly match away at Estadio do Tete on Sunday.

Caps went to halftime trailing after Dudo had thrust the hosts ahead.

But veteran forward Leonard Tsipa converted from the penalty spot to level matters after the restart before substitute Crispen Machisi grabbed the winner for Caps.

The spotlight was however on Mathe who last week replaced Englishman Mark Harrison who quit the club headed for Botswana side Township Rollers.

Mathe last season failed to make an impression at Highlanders after taking over from Kelvin Kaindu but his start at Caps in an international tie was promising.

Malawian international Gerald Phiri could have increased Caps’ lead but his free-kick went just wide as Chingale had Ntombo Lutete troubling the visitors.

Mathe has started preparing for life after left-back Ronald Pfumbidzai who is set to team up with his new Danish club Hobro IK next week.

Michael Mwenya was deployed at left-back with Romerio Matova as his reserve fullback.

Captain Hardlife Zvirekwi was left behind and Valentine Musarurwa played in his place at right-back as Mathe gave fringe players game time.

Forward Roderick Mutuma also did not travel to Tete.

United resume their league campaign this weekend with a derby showdown against Harare City with Mathe again under spotlight.
