BONGANI Mafu’s reign as Highlanders coach could finally end on Monday after the Bulawayo giants lost 3-2 to leaders Chicken Inn in a league match at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Mafu went into the match sitting on a one-game ultimatum read to him by club chiefs last week.

In-form Chicken Inn forward Mitchelle Katsvairo condemned Highlanders with a brace whose other goal came in injury time to decide the contest.

The leaders had taken the lead through Bhekimpilo Ncube who punished his former paymasters with a 24th minute strike but King Nadolo replied for Highlanders with a goal two minutes later.

The two sides went to halftime level on score but Katsvairo thrust Chicken Inn ahead ten minutes later before Highlanders struck back through Bruce Kangwa on 73 minutes.

As the game seemed to be headed for a stalemate, Katsvairo hit in injury time to doom the day for Mafu and his charges.

The future of Mafu now hangs in the balance as it is most likely to see him being shown the exit door following this derby loss to Chicken Inn.

The leaders remain four points clear at the top of the standings.
