Hopeful ... Chicken Inn boss Joey Antipas

AFTER the weekend cup action, attention turns back to the Castle Lager Premiership race with leaders Chicken Inn having a dicey away affair against relegation threatened Tsholotsho at White City Stadium on Wednesday.

With all 16 teams in action, no team, save for already relegated Dongo Sawmill, can afford to drop points at this stage of the season.

Just three matches, and it’s all over!

And to prove that Chicken Inn’s mind are solely on the league title, they rested all their big hitters in their quarterfinal of the Net One Easycall Cup on Saturday and fielded a second string side and still came out victors against ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga.

Skipper Danny Phiri, leading strikers Edmore Chirambadare and Clemence Matawu and midfielder Brian Mbiriri and tough as teak defender Moses Jackson did not make the trip to Kariba to get them ready for Tsholotsho in the Bulawayo Derby.

Chicken Inn lead the standings by 54 points to FC Platinum’s 52 while defending champions Dynamos are third on 48 points.

Tsholotsho are on 29 points and need two wins to secure another season in the top flight and will be hoping to see off the league leaders while praying that Buffaloes are not so lucky against inconsistent ZPC Kariba at Sakubva on the same afternoon.

On the other hand, Chicken Inn will be hoping that Platinum hit the skids against Flame Lily at Larfarge while Dynamos stay further away from the race against Dongo.
In the race for a top four finish, Triangle travel to Ascot to face Chapungu while Hwange host a rejuvenated Highlanders at the Colliery.

Highlanders have won their last two matches-beating Buffaloes 1-0 at Barbourfields in the dying minutes last week and again FC Platinum in the final seconds in the Net One Easycall Cup on Sunday.

How Mine, after their loss to Dynamos in a cup competition on Sunday, remained holed up in the capital to prepare for Caps United at the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

It would have been taxing for the players and costly for the team to travel back to Bulawayo on Monday and return, 24 hours later for the Caps match.

Harare City will be at home to Whawha.

Fixtures
Wednesday November 18
Flame Lily vs FC Platinum (Lafarge), Tsholotsho vs Chicken Inn (White City), Caps United vs How Mine (NSS), Dongo vs Dynamos (Vengere), Chapungu vs Triangle (Ascot), Buffaloes vs ZPC Kariba (Sakubva), Hwange vs Highlanders (Colliery), Harare City vs Whawha (Rufaro)
