ZIMBABWE will not be represented in the African Champions League for the second year running after FC Platinum said they will not be taking part in the African Champions League.

Platinum would have replaced newly crowned Zimbabwe champions Chicken Inn who have opted out of the African Safari citing financial challenges.

FC Platinum president George Mawere said they also believed they should participate in the tournament on merit.

"We believe we should participate in the tournament on merit,” said Mawere.

“We didn't win the league but are very happy with Norman Mapeza and his team. We need to retain this team and add one or two seniors ahead of the next season.

“We believe next season will be our year."

Dynamos have also ruled themselves out of the tournament even if invited to participate.

Chicken Inn become the second local club in as many years to pull out of Africa’s premier club football competition after Harare giants Dynamos also withdrew from this year’s Champions League, citing lack of financial resources.

Last week Chicken Inn won the title with 58 points with one game to go, while FC Platinum are tied on 54 points with Dynamos, but occupy second place by virtue of a superior goal difference.
