Football legend Freddy Mukwesha dies aged 73

THE Dynamos football family was thrown into mourning Tuesday after the untimely death of Zimbabwe football legend Freddy Mukwesha.

Mukwesha died at Harare Hospital in the morning after losing a battle against diabetes.

He was 73 and is survived by his wife and five children.

Family members said he will be buried in Goromonzi on Thursday.

Mukwesha was one of the founder members of Harare football giants Dynamos in 1963. At the time of his death, he served as an advisor to the Dynamos board of directors.

He was also the first Zimbabwean player to be exported to Europe turning out for Portuguese Primera League side Sporting de Braga in the late 1960’s where he rubbed shoulders with the late Portuguese legend Eusebio.

Mukwesha also played for rivals Caps United after his return from Portugal.

He went on to be one of the best coaches in domestic football, recording successes in cup games with Caps United.
