WARRIORS defender Elisha Muroiwa has been ruled out of Saturday’s Chan Group D between Zimbabwe and Mali at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.

Muroiwa sustained a head injury and also a cut below his left eye after colliding with Zambia’s Stephen Kabamba in Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to the northern neighbours.

The Dynamos centerback did not finish the match and was replaced by Stephen Makatuka.

Unfortunately for Zimbabwe, Zambia scored when Coach Callisto Pasuwa said Muroiwa has failed to recover on time and will not take part in the Mali game.

“Elisha’s absence means Stephen comes on. I am worried though, he was having a decent game and in terms of commanding the defence he was doing well. But we are in a tournament. We brought 23 players so anyone should be ready to play. At the moment Elisha is the only major injury but we also have Hardlife (Zvirekwi) who has a cut above the knee but is being assessed by the doctor,” Pasuwa said.

Makatuka is sure to replace Muroiwa and will partner Lawrence Mhlanga at the heart of defence.

The Mali match is a must-win for Zimbabwe who anchor Group D with no point and a defeat will sent the Warriors packing.
