On demand ... Khama Billiat

ZIMBABWE international forward Khama Billiat' sparkling form in South Africa has been recognised after he won the Player of the Month award for March-April.

A hugely influential figure at Mamelodi Sundowns, Billiat helped the Brazilians to the championship on Wednesday night after beating Pretoria University.

He was rewarded on Thursday for his role.

Billiat shared the podium with his coach, Pitso Mosimane, who won a record fifth Absa Premiership Coach of the Month award ahead of Bidvest Wits’ Gavin Hunt and Cavin Johnson from Platinum Stars.

The Player and Coach of the Month were selected by a panel of judges made up of members of the media and football analysts and was convened by SuperSport anchor, Phumlani Msibi.

The Warriors’ forward was recognized for his stellar performances
during this period, which saw him score two goals and providing an
impressive five assists for his championship-winning side.

“Billiat has been a marvel to watch; he’s smart player and has remarkably led Sundowns from the front. He seems to have mastered the false number 9 position, which has seen Sundowns profit from his clever runs and kill during this period,” the judges concurred.

He beat Orlando Pirates’ forward and compatriot, Tendai Ndoro, to the
monthly gong.

Billiat, who many believe is now beyond South Africa’s lower leagues, has recently attracted interest from several European clubs including those from Belgium and France. Of late, Chinese clubs have been said to be interested too.

French League One side, Lille, are believed to be interested in securing the Zimbabwean after they reportedly sent scouts to Zimbabwe to watch Billat play for the Warriors when they walloped Swaziland 4-0 in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers during the Easter Holidays.

Khama scored one of the goals in that victory.
