Antipas interested in Caps defender Makatuka

New Amazulu coach Joey Antipas

SOUTH African National First Division side AmaZulu have reportedly made inquiries about Caps United centre-back Stephen Makatuka with reports suggesting coach Joey Antipas wants the Zimbabwean in his squad.

Although his advisor George Deda refused to say much about the issue, sources privy to the deal said Antipas has revived his interest in the player.

Antipas, who is now coach of the South African club after leaving Chicken Inn, is a long-time admirer of the Caps defender. He was close to signing the player at the end of 2015 as he sought to defend the league title he had won.

Deda, who has been busy in the transfer market, has also arranged trials for Amidu brothers, Abbas and Brett to Germany where they are understood to have impressed during a two-week trial with lower division side SSv Ulm 1846.

His other client - Highlanders utility player Bruce Kangwa - has also been invited by Tanzanian top flight league side Azam.

Kangwa left Zimbabwe on Tuesday for what his handlers say is a familiarisation trip with the club which could also be a big blow to Highlander’s title aspirations after they also lost striker Knox Mutizwa to Bidvest Wits of South Africa.

And the likely departure of Makatuka could also affect Caps United’s league title push after a good run in the first round of the campaign in which they are in third place on the league table with just a point separating them from log leaders Highlanders and second placed FC Platinum who are on thirty points.

Both teams however have a game in hand.
