BIDVEST Wits newcomer Cuthbert Malajila believes the Students are ready for their 2016/17 Absa Premiership opener with title rivals Kaizer Chiefs on August 23.

Wits will host the Soweto giants at Bidvest Stadium, with kick-off set for 19h30.

"As a team we are ready for the first match and excited to be playing at home – so far so good. We can’t wait for the games to come," Malajila told his club's website.

The Zimbabwean striker joined the Clever Boys in July from Mamelodi Sundowns along with Mogakalodi Ngele as part of a swap deal involving Sibusiso Vilakazi. Malajila says there are some familiar faces at the Gavin Hunt-led outfit.

"I have played alongside some of the players before and I know (Elias) Pelembe, (Jabulani) Shongwe and (Buhle) Mkhwanazi. I am trying to get to know each and every single player by interacting with them on a daily basis."

Hunt's men recently went on a seven-day training camp in Stellenbosch in Cape Town.

Malajila added of the trip: "The camp was great, we played some friendlies and the team worked really hard.

"The most difficult part  of the camp for me was getting up at 05h00 in the morning to be at the gym by 06h00. Going on the camp prepares our mind and body for the challenges of a new season."
