SOUTH Africa: Maritzburg United seem to have made a statement about the future of their star striker, Evans Rusike, after confirming that they have exercised an option on his contract.

There has been talk of late that the 26-year-old could be moving on from the Team of Choice in the next transfer window, however, the club insist that is not the case.

Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have all previously been linked with a move for the Zimbabwe international, though Maritzburg say that ‘come next season, Zimbabwean striker Evans Rusike will still be the property of Maritzburg United.'

After the two-year option was exercised, the forward told United’s website, “I was happy to join the club last season and help to survive relegation. Now that the club has exercised the option, I have to stay focused. I have a job here. It’s an opportunity for me to keep improving on my game.”

Meanwhile, the club’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Brian Zuma voiced his happiness, saying, "Evans is our property and we're still expecting a lot from him. He is not for sale until the time is right, and if and when that happens, proper channels will have to be followed.”
