UNITED Kingdom: Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa has spoken of his pride in making his international debut for Zimbabwe.

Darikwa picked up his first cap in the 1-0 defeat to Lesotho and again started at right-back in a 3-1 loss to Namibia on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who qualifies to play for the Warriors through his father, is confident they can go on to achieve big things though.

“It was a special feeling obviously representing my country, my first international cap. Unfortunately we didn’t get the result,” Darikwa told the Daily News.

“I think the future of Zimbabwean football looks bright for me. There are some very good players who have still got a lot of years ahead of them.

“I think there might be a few more coming through this system, maybe a few more overseas players might decide to join us.

“My feeling is it’s going to be quite interesting in the next few years and hopefully we can progress and put ourselves on the world stage.”

Both games were friendlies with Zimbabwe set to resume their African Cup of Nations campaign in March. They currently top group G.
