Chidzambwa picks provisional Warriors CECAFA squad

WARRIORS interim coach Sunday Chidzambwa has named a provisional 29-man squad for the upcoming 2017 Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) tournament to be held in Kenya next month.

Zimbabwe was invited to participate at Africa`s oldest football tournament which is a preserve of East and Central countries. The tournament which was initially slated for November will now run from December 3 to 17.

“The training squad comprises of local based players, save for Donald Ngoma who is currently contracted to Young Africans in Tanzania.

“The two-week tournament begins on 3 December, ending on the 17th.Camp begins on Tuesday 28 November,” the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), said in a brief statement on Monday.

Goalkeepers called up include Elvis Chipezeze of Chicken Inn, Herbert Rusawo of Black Rhinos and Ngezi Platinum stars goalminder Takabva Mawaya.

The defenders’ line-up comprises Divine Lunga (Chicken Inn); Praise Tonha (How Mine); Qadr Amini (Ngezi Platinum Stars); Partson Jaure (Ngezi Platinum Stars); Farai Madhananga (Harare city); Peter Muduhwa (Highlanders); Jimmy Dzingai (Yadah Stars); Collin Kwaramba (Chapungu); Kelvin Moyo (FC Platinum) and Steven Makatuka (Caps United).

There was no place in the team for Dynamos captain Ocean Mushure and Caps United skipper Hardlife Zvirekwi, who were some of the outstanding performers in the just ended domestic league.

In midfield, Chidzambwa opted for Devon Chafa (Caps United); Gerald Takwara (FC Platinum); Never Tigere (ZPC Kariba); Liberty Chakoroma (Ngezi Platinum Stars); Rodwell Chinyengetere (FC Platinum); Ishmael Wadi (Bulawayo City); Raphael Manuvire (ZPC Kariba); Ali Sadiki (FC Platinum); Clemence Matawu (Chicken Inn) and Martin Vengesai (Harare City)

While, Dominic Chungwa (Caps United); Clive Augusto (Ngezi Platinum Stars) Terrence Dzukamanja (Ngezi Platinum Stars) Donald Ngoma and Lot Chiwunga (Black Rhinos) will contend for a place in the final squad.

Meanwhile, Chidzambwa will be assisted by Chicken Inn head coach Rahman Gumbo and Dynamos head coach Lloyd Mutasa.

Zimbabwe is in Group B alongside Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Burundi while hosts Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Libya and Zanzibar are in Group A.
